Stereotypes

A conversation with my dear friend Nekesa, some of which might know her as Wonderland, inspired me to get everyone's feelings on the matter.
What do all of you think of stereotypes? What ones have you been called?

HA. Don't get me started. Stereotypes are the worst thing to plague humankind, but they're also hilarious. For example, I am a white male who plays tuba and enjoys D&D on my spare time, so stereotypes say that I am a racist anti-social drunken member of a cult. Most of the time, people apply the "nerd" stereotype to me.

Hm, Let's see. I'm Homeschooled, Therefore, I must be both socially awkward and not smart enough for Public school. So, I've heard every homeschooled Stereotype under the sun.

Also, Yeah some of them can be hilarious. for example, the stereotype about innuit people riding walruses and such. O_o

Haha, those are always quite fun. The whole stereotype idea to me is stupid in the sense of that those who label themselves, are simply wannabees. Those are labeled by others, never truly define who they are. Ie, you being a drunken anti social racist cult member.

Also, as John Green once said, "Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Stereotypes are a necessary way to group individuals based on typical qualities, but using them in a negative light can be very damaging to the user since it can be insulting to a large group of people. Jokes based on stereotypes are very funny when in good humour, most importantly on the side of the person at the expense of the joke.

Lol, I'm blonde...so yeah, people have been stereotyping me sometimes XD But only as a joke so I don't really mind. But negative stereotyping is just crappy, period. =)

Stereotyping in a negative way is completely wrong. And annoying.

Me? I've been called a terrorist, bin Laden, Al Qaeda, Camel rider, Tutankhamen and Pyramid.

Although, some stereotypes are nice! But not true half of the time. xD
